The Basic Rules

A 9 x 9 grid is divided into 9 sub-grids (blocks) of 3 x 3.

1 - Each row can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.

2 - Each column can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.

3 - Each 3Ă—3 block can only contain numbers from 1 to 9.

Searching for easiest opportunities first

Check a block, a row or a column that is almost full of numbers.

Finding empty squares that can only be one specific number (Unique Candidate)

Number 4 cannot be in the first row.

Number 7 should be in the third row.

Number 6 cannot be in the the first and second columns.

Finding sole candidate (One-Choice)

An empty square can only contain a single number because all other numbers are taken in current row, column, or box.

The highlighted square can only contain number 7 since numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 exist in current row, column, box.

The current row, column, box contain numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 except 4.
